Helpful Plumbing Tips

Prepare Your Outside Plumbing for the Spring!

Barbo’s Plumbing recommends that you always winterize your outdoor faucet to help prevent your outside pipes from bursting during the colder months. Hopefully you have already taken this preventative step this season.

As temperatures start to rise in March and April our plumber suggests that you take off the hose bibb/ outdoor faucet insulation and give it a try to make sure that they turn on and shutoff without any leaks. This will help you get in front of any potential issues with your outside plumbing before the spring planting season hits.

If you notice signs such as cracks or leaks then don’t hesitate to contact our plumbing company. We’ll come out to your home and inspect your outdoor faucet and pipes to ensure that you are ready for the spring and summer season!

Inside Pipe Tips

Our plumbing company also recommends that homeowners take a few additional precautions on their own to avoid inside pipes from bursting. Our plumbers recommend that:

  • You keep garage doors closed if there is any water piping/ plumbing that runs through the garage
  • You crack the doors of cabinets underneath your inside sinks that are located on exterior walls
  • You keep a slow drip on indoor faucets if extremely low temperatures are expected
  • You keep your thermostat at the same temperature all day
  • Disconnect hoses from exterior hose bibbs
  • If exterior hose bibbs are the frost free style then insulating is not necessary
  • If exterior hose bibbs are not the frost free style they should be insulated to help prevent freezing
